New Test to Determine Protective Immunity to COVID-19 Now Available Through Partnership Between Ethos Laboratories and ARCpoint Labs of Monterey Bay

ARCpoint Labs, the diagnostic testing lab franchise with nearly 100 locations across the U.S., including Monterey, is partnering with Ethos Laboratories to bring a brand new test to market that measures protective immunity to COVID-19.

Monterey, CA. (June 23, 2020) — ARCpoint Labs, the diagnostic testing lab franchise with nearly 100 locations across the U.S., including Monterey, is partnering with Ethos Laboratories to bring a brand new test to market that measures protective immunity to COVID-19.

Tru-Immune™ by Ethos Laboratories is the first Surrogate Viral Neutralization Test (sVNT) to evaluate COVID-19 protective immunity in the United States. Unlike other tests currently on the market, Tru-Immune™ detects the presence and magnitude of neutralizing antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus that could prevent future infection.

“This test will provide personalized information that has not been available before,” says John Constantine, CEO of ARCpoint Franchise Group. “This is the first test that can give you an indication of how effective your antibodies are at fighting COVID-19. We are excited about what this means for individuals, and the value it provides as they make decisions about returning to work and other activities safely and with confidence. ARCpoint Labs is proud to be the first national network of collection sites for Tru-Immune™ as we roll this out.”

According to a recent article published by Johns Hopkins University, neutralization assays are the “gold standard” for determining if a patient has effective antibodies and protective immunity against SARS-CoV-2.

"Tru-Immune is the first test to evaluate protective immunity to the SARS-CoV-2 virus that does not require the use of live virus, cell culture or even pseudovirus,” says Dr. Joshua Gunn, CSO of Ethos Research and Development. “These significant innovations allow us to process samples in less than 3 hours, compared to viral neutralization tests that can take 3-5 days to produce results.”

Blood tests capable of detecting anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies have flooded the market, but none can measure the viral neutralizing capacity of these antibodies.

“If test results indicate the presence of neutralizing antibodies, that means you’ve been exposed and your immune system is capable of inhibiting the virus if you are exposed again,” says Gunn.

More studies will be required to better understand how long the protective antibody response lasts in recovered patients, and this information will be key for developing effective vaccine strategies.

“Behind the scenes, we’re all geeking out about the science involved in this test,” says Constantine, “but we’re most excited about how this information will help with vaccine development and convalescent plasma donations, which could be potentially life-saving. Until we have a vaccine, this could be the strongest defense we have to fight COVID-19.”

Tru-Immune™ has not yet been approved by the FDA for Emergency Use Authorization. Ethos Laboratories has submitted data and statements to the FDA for review.

ARCpoint Labs is now offering Tru-Immune™ in select markets across the U.S., including ARCpoint Labs of Monterey Bay, 24560 Silver Cloud Court, #103, in Monterey. For more information or to schedule an appointment, go to: www.arcpointlabs.com/find-your-location/ or call (831) 324-0772.

Lifelong Advocate for Children Everett Sivils named Newest Board Member for Partnership for Children

Growing up in Louisville, Ky., in the 1960s and ’70s, Everett Sivils faced poverty and prejudice each day with a sense of hope.

Salinas, CA, March 29, 2020 - Growing up in Louisville, Ky., in the 1960s and ’70s, Everett Sivils faced poverty and prejudice each day with a sense of hope.

“I was one of those kids that people never gave up on,” said Sivils, who has worked most of his adult life giving back to kids all over Monterey County.

Continuing in that theme, Sivils has become the latest board member for Partnership for Children, the Salinas-based nonprofit that supports families with children experiencing serious illness.

“I remember many times I couldn’t go to the doctor,” said Sivils, 55. “You would have to try to get a ride from someone in the neighborhood. People die when they don’t have accessibility to health care. The partnership provides some hope, versus no hope.”

Partnership for Children has provided transportation to medical care and family support services for children with life-threatening conditions since 2007. Its transportation and financial assistance programs increase access to compassionate care for children living in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.

Jennifer Ramirez founded Partnership for Children as its own independent nonprofit, and is responsible for the vision, strategy and delivery of its services. As executive director, her passion for improving children’s access to medical care was born out of her personal experiences with her daughter, who has complex medical conditions. Jennifer became director in 2011 when PFC was a program of Children’s Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition.

Sivils first met Jennifer while serving on the board of Community Action Partnership, helping low income individuals become self-sufficient. He invited her to speak to members of the Monterey Pacific Rotary Club, where he served as president.

“The work is so critical,” said Sivils, who has spent the past 22 years as a behavioral specialist for Monterey County Office of Education, working with special education students (elementary to high school).

“When I was a kid I was bussed to suburban schools, and I remember all the riots and the derogatory signs directed to black folks,” he said. “One day they sent us to the auditorium, and a teacher said: ‘We all don’t feel the same way.’ Something inside me bubbled. It felt really good. People didn’t give up on me, so who am to give up on anyone? I couldn’t, so I turned it into my life’s purpose.”

Sivils served in the U.S. Army, arriving at Fort Ord in 1988. He and his wife Cardis Cruz-Sivils settled on the Monterey Peninsula with their daughter Domineque, who sadly passed away in May of last year.

Vendange Carmel Inn and Suites Announces New Wine-Themed Room in Partnership With Award-Winning Soledad-Based Carmel Road Winery

Vendange Carmel Inn and Suites has announced a new wine-themed room designed and decorated by Soledad-based Carmel Road Winery.

Carmel, CA, September 6, 2017 — Vendange Carmel Inn and Suites has announced a new wine-themed room designed and decorated by Soledad-based Carmel Road Winery.

Carmel Road wines are inspired by the wind and the waves that define Monterey, which in turn inspired the vision for the Carmel Road wine room at the Vendange Inn.

“We were honored to be selected to bring one of their suites to life with the Carmel Road look and feel,” says Chrissy Gray, Carmel Road tasting room manager. “We chose cool blue and seafoam green tones to give guests that tranquil feeling of being at the beach. Think upscale picnic with your toes in the sand — with a wine glass in hand, of course!”

Gray says they wanted to bring to life the coastal, peaceful vibe found in Carmel, as well as in their tasting room, so they created several large photo canvases showcasing the nearby ocean, with a wine-themed twist. There’s also a beautiful nook under a wine rack where guests can sit and simply relax with a glass of Carmel Road Pinot Noir or Chardonnay.

To really give guests a sense of what Carmel Road Winery has to offer, in the room they will find a selection of Carmel Road wines for purchase, information about their wine club as well as the winery, beautiful etched glasses, stone coasters, plush throw blankets, and complimentary tasting cards for up to four people.

“Carmel Road is a sense of place, and we hope the guests in this room come to discover that special feeling for themselves,” says Gray.
Carmel Road joins 14 other wineries in partnership with Vendange to sponsor wine-themed rooms. From the McIntyre Vineyards’ room with its impressive 100-year-old grapevine section to J. Lohr’s wine barrel on the balcony, every winery’s room offers a signature luxury experience. The participating wineries include: Blair, Cima Collina, Dawn’s Dream, Galante, Holman Ranch, J. Lohr, Joullian, Manzoni, McIntyre, Otter Cove, Tudor, Twisted Roots, Mesa Del Sol and Ventana.

About Carmel Road Winery
Inland from Monterey’s rugged coastline, yet still directly in the path of the ocean’s relentless influence, Carmel Road Winery creates vibrant Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Pinot Grigio that capture the essence of this remarkable region. The winery tailors its viticulture and winemaking techniques to capture the compelling character of this windswept area. Since its founding in 1997, the family-owned and operated winery has worked continually to improve farming and winemaking practices, creating complex wines while also preserving the ecosystem for future generations. Carmel Road is certified by SIP (Sustainability in Practice) and CCSW (Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing) and recognized as a leader in water conservation, energy efficiency and land restoration.
