Innovative BBL Skin Treatment System Now Available from Dr. Roya Javid at Coastal Valley Dermatology in Carmel

BBL, or broadband light, is an innovative, non-invasive skin treatment system that utilizes one-of-a-kind flash lamp technology that allows targeted treatment for many skin conditions.

Carmel CA, January 26, 2016 - BBL, or broadband light, is an innovative, non-invasive skin treatment system that utilizes one-of-a-kind flash lamp technology that allows targeted treatment for many skin conditions.

Treatments utilizing Forever Young BBL™ from Sciton are now available at Coastal Valley Dermatology Associates, Inc. in Carmel under the supervision of Dr. Roya Javid, one of the area's leading dermatologists.

Dr. Javid is involved with the treatment plan of every patient and she personally oversees all treatments. She performs all injection treatments as well as some of the light and laser treatments.

Forever Young BBL sends light energy deep into the skin to boost the body’s natural ability to fight aging. The result? Skin that’s visibly younger looking, year after year.

Forever Young BBL allows treatment of acne, pigmented lesions, such as freckles, age spots, vascular lesions such as cherry angiomas, telangiectasias and rosacea, cutaneous vascular lesions, hair reduction, deeper lesions, darker skin types and hair removal.

With its user-friendly features and superior results, Forever Young BBL is the most complete and versatile broadband light system in its class.

Far superior to regular photo facial treatments, Sciton BBL’s dual-lamp technology delivers results in less treatments and time — saving you money with better results.

BBL offers a full range of pulsed-light treatments, including rejuvenation applications that target the effects of photo-aging, such as brown spots, tiny broken vessels, and other benign lesions.

Scientific evidence demonstrates regular maintenance treatments using Forever Young BBL technology rejuvenates skin and delays skin aging. “Patients who maintain a regular regimen of BBL treatments annually can reduce and delay the long-term signs of skin aging in a way that looks very natural,” write Dr. Patrick Bitter and Dr. J. Pozner in their study on BBL therapy.

Lasers represent a significant advance in dermatology and dermatologic surgery. Their precision, range of applications, and relatively short recovery time have brought new levels of treatment results.

Short pulses of light remove skin tissue to improve the appearance of wrinkles, scars, blemishes, discoloration, blood vessels, and sun damage, as well as the skin’s overall tone and texture.

“Here at Coastal Valley Dermatology, it is important to utilize the most cutting-edge technology,” says Dr. Javid. “We use the Forever Young Broad Band Light laser technology to provide patients with beautifully noticeable results that allows for minimal pain and a short recovery time.”

About Jarman Wines:
Jarman’s terroir (a French word that speaks to a wine’s place of origin, its subtle nuances of traceable character, flavor, lineage and integrity) refers to a special place in Carmel Valley — and also to a special woman, family matriarch Jarman Fearing Lowder, who inspired a family to bottle the essence of a mother’s spirit. The Jarman label reflects quality, with only the best local grapes used during an artisanal, small-batch winemaking process. Jarman wine uses only 100% estate-grown, organic and certified-sustainable grapes. Aged in French oak barrels, Jarman’s vintages are held in limited supply, and are not available anywhere outside their tasting room.

The two varietals include:
The 2013 Jarman Pinot Noir takes on nuances of warm blueberry pie, cloves and cinnamon that mingle in the nose with oak notes from 10 months in the barrel. The mouth-feel is plump and juicy with overtones of cassis and blackberries.

The 2014 Jarman Chardonnay features floral notes reminiscent of walking by a parfumerie in France — subtle and pleasant with a hint of earthiness. When serving this wine lightly chilled, rich notes of underripe berries and raw honey will waltz across your palate.

To further honor their mother’s memory, the family has opened a special tasting room in Carmel Valley Village (open noon to 5 p.m., Monday - Sunday) next to Will’s Fargo Steakhouse + Bar, the restaurant they purchased in 2014. The tastings will feature full-fledged experiences, including tours and wine education, and each will include a food element that complements the wine. The new Jarman tasting room will provide visitors with three unique experiences: Cru Tasting, Premier Cru Experience and the Grand Cru Experience.

Soul Music Great Charles Wright Drops Black History Month Bombshell “Up from Where We’ve Come”

New Book details a Historical Autobiography about the Racism and Hardship the Wright Family Faced as Sharecroppers Near Clarksdale, Mississippi Circa The '40s and early '50s.

Los Angeles, CA, January 26, 2016 - Among the most profound new literary entries to be released this February in Black History Month is a bitter true to life tome from culturally conscious Rhythm & Blues legend Charles Wright, the singer/songwriter/guitarist best known for singing and composing '70s Soul smash “Express Yourself” still heard daily on radio, in movies and dozens of television commercials.

The multi-talented messenger has taken up his pen to complete the first in a planned series of autobiographies that details his painful early life stories as a southern Black man that miraculously brought himself from poverty to prosperity. The inaugural installment, “Up From Where We’ve Come,” is an up-close and intimate telling of the Wright family’s back-breaking struggles as sharecroppers near Clarksdale, Mississippi through the '40s and early '50s. Written in the raw dialects of how Blacks and Whites communicated during that era, it's a riveting insider’s glimpse into the realities of the times.

“Do we truly know the full extent of our history,” Charles challenges? “I’m willing to bet that most of us do not have the slightest idea. ‘Up From Where We’ve Come’ is the history of me as a child growing up in the cotton fields of Mississippi at a time few, except people such as myself, remember. It’s an intimate slice of America’s history.

Remember --- a pie is not complete until every slice is accounted for. ‘Up From Where We’ve Come’ is an important piece of history which every true American should seek to experience…especially those who are seeking the truth.”

Through his hindsight insights as an older/wiser man, Charles Wright imparts knowledge, culture and context in each of the tome’s 56 chapters. Along with the struggle there is the warmth of family and a love story that blossoms against all odds. ‘Up From Where We’ve Come’ emerges as a triumphant and highly unique literary statement from a man whose music has touched several generations.
“People who've read my book always say, ‘I simply could not put it down,’ proclaims Wright, “and for this, I am so very thankful”.

Legendary Singer-Songwriter and Producer Bunny Sigler Releases New Single to Radio “Lavada” out January 25, 2016

“Lavada” marks the 3rd single from Bunny’s critically acclaimed CD, “Bundino”

Los Angeles, CA, January 25, 2016 - Four-time Grammy winning producer-singer-songwriter Bunny Sigler releases his third single “Lavada” from his critically acclaimed 2015 album Bundino January 25, 2016 with a YouTube premiere of his lyric video for “Lavada” on January 26, 2016. The prolific songwriter who produced the “Philly Sound” engages his audience once again with this touching love song that brings to mind the influential R&B sound of the 90’s.

Sigler’s vocals soar on this soulful track written by Sigler and previous collaborator Phil Hurt. “Lavada,” as Bunny describes, is a “love song that expresses the feelings of a man who is reminded of his one true love everywhere he goes”. Sigler’s endearing lyrics and laid back approach flow with such ease in the middle on “Lavada’s” memorable chorus.

This captivating song recalls the deepest form of love – the infatuation one feels with the love of their life. Clocking in at almost five minutes, the song’s highlights include the slow build up at the four-minute mark and the layers of vocal harmonies.

Complete with soulful ballads, nostalgic and funky songs, and finally honing in on a contemporary sound, Bunny Sigler’s latest album Bundino delivers 14 brilliant R&B tracks. Released in May 2015, the album features Sigler’s signature croons and songwriting while paying homage to 50 year career in the music industry. Sigler also has a wide variety of videos available on his YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/user/MrBunnySigler/.

“…Sigler has no problem with shaking things up, and he demonstrates his comfort with envelope pushing through Bundino.” –Soul Tracks

Sweet Honey in the Rock set to Release New Album #Loveinevolution January 22nd

#Loveinevolution Marks Band’s 24th Release; Contains Latest Video “Second Line Blues”

Hollywood, CA, January 21, 2016 - GRAMMY®-nominated, Sweet Honey in the Rock is gearing up for their upcoming album #LoveinEvolution (out January 22nd) via SHE-ROCKS 5, INC./Appleseed Recordings (distributed by E1 Entertainment). The A Capella ensemble recently released their second single and music video, “Second Line Blues,” available now on iTunes and Amazon.

The album’s stark second single “Second Line Blues” with its cryptic snare drum cadence, roll calls the names of innocent people that have fallen victim to murder at the hands of anyone from deranged civilians to police abusing their license to kill. Carol Maillard (who along with Louise Robinson is an original member of the group) states, “Since we started performing this piece, we’ve needed to keep adding names…and sadly, we’ll be adding more before things change.”

Since 1973, this remarkable all women, African- American group has been creating historical and stimulating topics expressed through song, dance and sign language. The ensemble has produced over 20 albums and has interchanged with many vocalists. However, embarking on a new chapter in their musical journey, Sweet Honey in the Rock now includes four core vocalists—Louise Robinson, Carol Maillard (both founding members) Nitanju Bolade Casel, and Aisha Kahlil—plus Shirley Childress (an American Sign Language Interpreter who has been performing live with the group since 1981). One of the early highlights of their 2016 performance season will be Sweet Honey in the Rock’s 34th appearance at Carnegie Hall which will include special guest appearances by highly-regarded violinist Regina Carter and trumpeter Terence Blanchard.

Their soon-to-be-released 24th studio album, #LoveinEvolution, highlights Sweet Honey In The Rock’s signature blend of jazz, blues, soul, gospel, and African chants, containing 14 touching songs produced by Nitanju Bolade Casel. The album features an eclectic mix of new original songs and covers of a few popular classics.

This year’s presentations focus on the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and its wildlife; climate change, weather and water anomalies and their affects on marine life; whale entanglements and rescues; and local marine history.

On Saturday, Paul Michel from MBNMS/NOAA will provide an overview of the abundant marine life in Monterey Bay; while leatherback turtle researcher Scott Benson will discuss biology and ecology of leatherback turtles including information specific to the endangered western Pacific population that utilizes US west coast waters as a foraging region. UC Santa Cruz distinguished professor Dan Costa will share his research experience with elephant seals.

Cannery Row Foundation founder and John Steinbeck expert Michael Hemp explores the fate of the Western Flyer research ship that took “Doc” Ricketts and John Steinbeck on a well documented research trip to the Sea of Cortez 70 years ago; and local fisheries historian Tim Thomas will entertain with tales of whales, sardines and canneries in oldMonterey.

Scientist, researcher and New York Times bestselling author of “Blue Mind”, Wallace J.Nichols, will be on hand to share his insights on the remarkable truth about the benefits of being in, on, under or simply near water. He’ll also sign copies of his book, available at the event.

Sunday’s program focuses on climate change and recent meteorological and oceanographic events and their affect on marine life in general and whales in particular. Marine Biologist Steve Webster, one of the founders of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, will talk about the effects of climate change on whales; while marine ecologist Steve Lonhart explores warm water abnormalities recently observed in Monterey Bay and beyond. Rounding out the program are presentations by the Northern California Whale Entanglement Team, including founder Peggy Stap of Marine Life Studies, who’ll share their experiences and insights into rescuing injured whales on the high seas and in port.

A full schedule of the program with additional speakers (subject to change) will be released later. Additional information about the presentations and speakers’ biographies can be found on the Monterey Wharf’s website:http://montereywharf.com/index.php?page=whalefest-monterey-2013

Wine Caves:
The winery at Holman Ranch, located in The Caves, is completely underground in order to take advantage of the natural cooling and humidity held below. The 3000 square foot area maintains a constant temperature of 58˚F-60 ˚F and contains four 750 gallon tanks, four 1200 gallon tanks, and four open top tanks that can hold two tons each. One hundred (100) French oak barrels are maintained year round. Winery operations such as destemming, pressing, fermenting and aging take place within the cool environment of The Caves, while bottling is done directly outside using a mobile bottling line. During harvest, 6 to 8 tons of grapes a day are processed. This may seem low but it is due to the fact that harvesting hours are between 7am to noon on any given day. Grapes are hand picked and loaded into half ton bins, transferred to the winery by tractor and then moved by forklift to the destemmer. White wines take around three weeks to ferment at 50˚F and are bottled in February, while red varietals ferment for two weeks and are bottled in early June. All skins, seeds and stems are composted and returned to the fields. Slow months for our winery are June, July and August with the busiest time being September. The winery will produce 3000-5000 cases annually.

Vineyard & Winery Background:
Located at the north eastern tip of the Carmel Valley Appellation, the family-owned Holman Ranch resides approximately 12 miles inland from the Pacific Coast. Immersed in history and romance, the ranch has not only proven to be an excellent growing location for our vineyards but also for the Tuscan varietal olive trees which have flourished under the temperate climate.

Our estate-grown wine varietals are planted on approximately 21 acres of undulating terrain.
The wines produced are unfined and crafted to deliver the true varietal of the grape from harvest to bottle.

The climate and terroir of the appellation has played a critical part in the success of our wines. The warmth of our inland valley coupled with the cooling marine layer has established itself as an ideal microclimate for the production of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Our Burgundy Clones have thrived from the perfect blend of ideal climate, southern exposure and thin rocky soils.

Holman Ranch Tasting Room:
Holman Ranch’s Carmel Valley tasting room offers the perfect backdrop to swirl, sip and savor the different complexities of Holman Ranch Vineyard and Winery wines. There is something for everyone (4 varietals in fact), from the full-bodied Pinot Noirs to the light, fruity flavors of our Pinot Gris and lightly oaked Chardonnay. Holman Ranch also offers estate grown and bottled Olive Oil available for tasting and purchase at the Tasting Room.

The Tasting Room showcases the estate wines of Holman Ranch which includes our Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Rosé of Pinot Noir. Carefully hand-harvested, cold pressed and bottled, the Extra Virgin Olive Oil produced from the fruits of our Tuscan trees has a delightful spice followed by a buttery finish.

Three tasting flights of three wines each (White, Mountain and Pinot Noir) are available 7 days a week. The Tasting Room also holds a series of cooking demos called In Your Backyard. For more information, call (831) 659-2640.

Olive Grove:
Holman Ranch has its own distinctive olive grove located on a south facing hill of our vineyard. The grove is comprised of 100 trees with multiple cultivars planted. These cultivars consist of 25 Frantoio, 25 Leccino, 10 Mission, 25 Coratina, 5 Pendolino, and 10 Picholine, all of which were originally planted in 2194 in a Carmel Valley orchard then replanted at Holman Ranch in 2007. These mature olive trees allowed us to produce olive oil right away. They are planted in shale for the best production and harvesting results possible. We harvest our fruit by hand in December, which is then milled, producing a superb, high quality product. Although the Olive Grove is not certified organic, we do employ organic practices when farming our trees. Our mill, however, is certified organic. An interesting fact is that olive trees are alternate bearing, which means that one year they may produce 650, 375ml bottles worth of oil, while next year they may produce only 50, 375ml bottles.

About Jarman Wines
Jarman’s terroir (a French word that speaks to a wine’s place of origin, its subtle nuances of traceable character, flavor, lineage and integrity) refers to a special place in Carmel Valley—and also to a special woman who inspired a family to bottle the essence of a mother’s spirit. The Jarman label will reflect quality, with only the best local grapes used during an artisanal, small-batch winemaking process. Jarman wine uses only 100 percent estate-grown, organic and certified-sustainable grapes. Aged in French oak barrels, Jarman’s vintages are held in limited supply, and not available anywhere outside their tasting room. The two varietals include:

· The 2013 Jarman Pinot Noir takes on nuances of warm blueberry pie, cloves and cinnamon that mingle in the nose with oak notes from 10 months in the barrel. The mouth-feel is plump and juicy with overtones of cassis and blackberries.

· The 2014 Jarman Chardonnay features floral notes reminiscent of walking by a parfumerie in France — subtle and pleasant with a hint of earthiness. When serving this wine lightly chilled, rich notes of underripe berries and raw honey will waltz across your palate.

To further honor their mother’s memory, the family has opened a special tasting room in Carmel Valley Village (open noon to 5 p.m., Thurs.-Sun.; or by appointment) next to Will’s Fargo Steakhouse + Bar, the restaurant they purchased in 2014. The tastings will feature full-fledged experiences, including tours and wine education, and each will include a food element that complements the wine. The new Jarman tasting room will provide visitors with three unique experiences: Cru Tasting, Premier Cru Experience and the Grand Cru Experience.

About The Owners:
Carmel Valley’s iconic steakhouse Will’s Fargo is owned and operated by the husband-and-wife team of Nick Elliott and Hunter Lowder, who also team up to run nearby Holman Ranch, a wedding and special event venue that also produces wine and olive oil. Lowder formerly served as manager of Rio Grill in Carmel, while Elliott is a culinary school graduate. At Will’s, Lowder manages the front of the house while Elliott runs the bar. The couple maintains Will’s Fargo’s reputation as an elite steakhouse and popular locals’ hangout, while also using the property as an off-site option for Holman Ranch guests.

According to Wendy Brickman, owner of Brickman Marketing and founder of Pasta, Pizza and Professionals, “I have had the pleasure of coordinating the one-hour Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Brown Bag Seminars for over 25 years and I love doing so! It’s a great way to learn relevant information for our businesses and network with the community. However, I was also looking for a more relaxed venue for learning that features a great ambiance, food and service so I “cooked” up this concept. I know that Cibo Ristorante Italiano in Downtown Monterey is just the perfect place! Scheduling these learning events with community experts in the evening around dinner will also allow us to better “digest” what we learn, mix and mingle, and ask questions one-on-one of the expert speaker.”
